Nursing Site Manager

Location: Dublin South West


Employment Type: Part time Permanent and Full Time Specified Purpose

Job Purpose

The role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of nursing practice. As a key member of the senior nursing team, the Nursing Site Manager (NSM) will demonstrate managerial and leadership skills, working collaboratively with the Director of Nursing & Transformation, Senior Management Colleagues, Heads of Departments, Clinical Nurse Managers and Allied Health Professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the safe and effective operations of Nursing services towards ensuring patients have safe and timely access to services, expertise and support on a 24-hour basis.
  • Ensure that the day-to-day activities and resources of the hospital are managed and co-ordinated throughout, so that a first-class patient focused service is delivered.
  • Coordinates patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow throughout the hospital.
  • Develop effective workforce planning in conjunction with CNM's.
  • Evaluate the systems of nursing care delivery and recommend changes in nursing procedures, practices and policies.
  • Provide reports on matters affecting the implementation and monitoring of the service plans against the targets set.
  • Manage and control agency and bank utilisation across the hospital.
  • Maintain an accurate and timely knowledge of bed availability, to ensure real-time patient discharge and admissions is recorded and beds assigned for patient care in accordance with hospital policies.
  • To manage the split of urgent/emergency and scheduled/ elective care to effect the daily placement of unscheduled and scheduled admissions efficiently.
  • Support CNM's and Patient Flow Manager in actively managing complex discharge planning situations
  • Support and manage all staff including medical staff, ensuring good systems are in place for annual leave, sick leave and appropriate plans in place for replacing staff including short notice absence.
  • Conduct audits of charts, daily entries and communication boards.
  • Contribute to relevant committees and working groups as requested by Director of Nursing and Quality.
  • Contribute to investigation of adverse occurrences, medication incidents and patient complaints with accountability for drafting responses and implementing corrective action and preventative actions.
  • Review the organisation plan within your remit of responsibility and establishment levels and ensure that each is consistent with achieving objectives and recommend change where appropriate.

Essential

  • Be registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMBI
  • 5 years' experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the development and delivery of a comprehensive service, meeting a full range of key targets and making significant improvements
  • Worked with a diverse range of stakeholders internal and external to achieve successful outcomes
  • A proactive hands on 'can do' attitude
  • Demonstrated capability in change management
  • Hold an up to date ACLS course or a willingness to undertake same.
  • A health care management qualification is desirable at third level/ or level 9 on the National Qualification Authority of Ireland (NQAI.)

Salary range

  • €60,000 - €80,000 per year
