Senior House Officer (SHO) - Locum (All Specialties)

We are currently recruiting Senior House Officers (SHOs) across all medical and surgical specialties for locum, non‑contract roles within HSE hospitals nationwide. These roles offer flexible short‑ and medium‑term cover, including day, night, and weekend shifts, in a variety of clinical settings.

As a Tier 1 HSE agency, we have direct access to ongoing and urgent SHO locum requirements across Ireland.



Role Overview

The SHO will work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team, providing safe and effective patient care under the supervision of Registrars and Consultants. Opportunities are available across multiple specialties including Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, and others depending on experience and service needs.



Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assessment, investigation, and management of patients under supervision
  • Provide day‑to‑day clinical care for inpatients and outpatients as required
  • Participate in ward rounds, handovers, and multidisciplinary meetings
  • Request and follow up on investigations including blood tests, imaging, and ECGs
  • Carry out clinical procedures within scope of competence
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation of clinical findings and management plans
  • Communicate effectively with senior doctors, nursing staff, and allied health professionals
  • Escalate concerns appropriately to Registrars or Consultants
  • Adhere to HSE policies, clinical governance, and patient safety standards


Essential Requirements

  • IMC Registration (or eligibility to register)
  • Experience working at SHO level in Irish hospitals
  • Ability to work effectively within a busy clinical environment
  • Strong communication, organisational, and clinical skills
  • Flexibility to cover ad‑hoc or short‑notice shifts
  • Relevant specialty experience depending on role
  • BLS / ALS certification
  • Practical Patient Moving and Handling
  • Availability for night or weekend shifts
