Limerick University Hospital (LUH) is a major acute teaching hospital within the UL Hospitals Group and serves as a Model 4 hospital for the Mid-West region. With approximately 500+ inpatient beds, LUH provides a full range of emergency, medical, and surgical services and is a key centre for trauma, emergency medicine, and specialist care.
The Emergency Department at LUH is one of the busiest in the country, delivering consultant-led emergency care to a large and diverse population. The hospital is closely affiliated with the University of Limerick, supporting education, training, research, and continuous service development.
Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality emergency medical care to patients within the hospital's catchment population.
Demonstrate professionalism, effective leadership, and strong teamwork skills within the Emergency Department.
Oversee clinical management and provide strategic direction for the ED alongside Consultant colleagues.
Take responsibility for developing, implementing, and supervising systems of care for all ED patients.
Provide training, supervision, and clinical support to the Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor (NCHD) team.
Offer guidance and ongoing support to nursing and allied health professionals working in the unit.
Requirements
Eligible for Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
Relevant experience working as an Emergency Medicine Specialist/Consultant (2+ years)
Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical governance, and service improvement.
Salary
€233,000 - €280,000 per annum
