Location: Private Nursing Home (Ireland)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Reports To: Registered Provider / Senior Management
Role Purpose
The Director of Nursing (DON) provides overall leadership, management, and coordination of nursing and care services within the nursing home. The role ensures the delivery of safe, compassionate, and person-centred care in line with professional, legal, and regulatory standards. The DON is responsible for clinical governance, staff management, and quality assurance across the service.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Quality Leadership
* Ensure the provision of high-quality, evidence-based nursing and personal care to all residents.
* Maintain full compliance with HIQA Standards, safeguarding requirements, and relevant legislation.
* Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical policies, procedures, and best-practice guidelines.
* Lead clinical audits, risk assessments, and quality improvement projects.
* Oversee clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
Operational & Service Management
* Manage day-to-day nursing operations, ensuring adequate staffing and safe skill mix.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary care and ensure effective communication across all departments.
* Support the development and implementation of service plans, budgets, and operational strategies.
* Ensure efficient management of incidents, complaints, and resident feedback.
Staff Leadership & Development
* Recruit, supervise, mentor, and support nursing and care staff.
* Conduct staff appraisals, manage performance, and support continuous professional development.
* Promote a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, respect, and professional excellence.
* Ensure delivery of mandatory training and ongoing education programmes.
Resident & Family Engagement
* Promote a person-centred culture that emphasises dignity, autonomy, and wellbeing.
* Build strong relationships with residents, families, advocates, and external partners.
* Address concerns or issues promptly, professionally, and in line with policy.

Qualifications & Requirements
* Registered General Nurse with active NMBI registration.
* Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibility.
* Strong working knowledge of HIQA Standards, care planning, safeguarding, and clinical governance.
* Proven ability to lead teams, manage resources, and oversee clinical operations.
* Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
* Commitment to high standards of resident care and continuous improvement.

* Postgraduate qualification in management, gerontology, or a related field.
* Experience in nursing home, residential care, or long-term care environments.
